What is Aqiqah and Qurban?
The sacrifice of an animal (or animals) performed by the parents or guardians of a child on the occasion of his birth is called “Aqiqah.” It was a tradition practiced by Prophet Muhammad and his companions, to show gratitude for Allah’s blessing.
It is a mustahab sunnah and is recommended for newborns. It can be performed on the day of the baby’s birth or seven days later if the mother cannot perform it at that time.
For a newborn boy, parents should slaughter two goats or sheep, while for a girl, they should sacrifice one. The condition of the animals is also similar to the condition of those slaughtered for Qurbani – cows must be more than 3 years old, goats must be more than 2 years old, and camels must be over six years old.
The meat of the aqiqah is distributed to relatives, neighbours and friends who are in need. It is a tradition to cook and serve this meat in a feast, and eat it as a special meal.
How to Perform Aqiqah?

What is the Difference Between Aqiqah and Qurban?
