Primarily, data is categorized into two significant divisions: qualitative and quantitative.

Qualitative Data 

Qualitative data measures things that cannot be quantified by numbers. It comprises observations on the thoughts and emotions of others. For example, customers’ emotions regarding certain  products.

Quantitative Data

Questionnaires

On the other hand, questionnaire studies are effective in examining attitudes and beliefs because participants are simply required to reply to the questions rather than being observed in a particular circumstance. It’s like asking the participants directly about what they are feeling, instead of observing their actions and behavior in a specific context.

However, there is no method to monitor a person’s conduct outside of a survey, questionnaires may not be effective at detecting behavior.

Surveys

Interviews and surveys are two most crucial methods of data  collection. While both of these share several common characteristics Both interviews and surveys are conducted on a group of people, and both collect the same kind of data for statistical purposes.

The main goals of a survey are to collect  a considerable amount of data from surveys and questionnaires. The data collection in this case is based on the two factors – the questions which are chosen for surveys and secondly how respondents react to the questions using their own experiences, opinions, tastes, and preferences.

There are primary and secondary methods of data collection when it comes to surveys.

Primary Process of Collection

Direct surveys are categorized among primary data collection techniques. For example, post-campaign surveys. These are given to people after a campaign is over, and they are typically designed with panels consisting of your core target audiences.

These include pre-purchase, post-delivery and post-purchase surveys. Any business will be benefitted by these fundamental data collection techniques when it comes to gather, examine, and present data.

Experimentation

Experimental method is more about learning the consumers’ needs and preferences and accordingly pivot the changes. However, running trials for data collection becomes expensive at times. Hence, many businesses concentrate on collecting qualitative data through questionnaires. However, random errors and non-responses frequently affect survey results.

From this perspective, it’s always better to completely control the design and execution of tests. 

Experimental method however eliminates the exclusion criteria to weed out unwanted participants. Thus, experimental  survey results  are typically more trustworthy than normal questionnaires.

Delphi Technique

Companies use the Delphi Method because it is a crucial instrument for data collection and produces thorough, precise,   even if the results are repeatable .

It typically entails playing a variety of roles with distinct duties, including supervisor, tester, and team member.

The Delphi Way is the most popular method due to its accuracy and efficiency.
