How to Build a House on the Moon

Cost of materials

RETHi simulations of damage on the moon

However, if it does eventually come to fruition, it might look much different than the Project Constellation idea of 2007. Originally, NASA’s goal was to construct a permanent base on the Moon to serve as a stepping stone for future missions to Mars.

In the end, Project Constellation was a failure, and NASA had to start thinking about other options. That includes exploring the Moon for resources and extracting metals from its rocks.

Another option would be building a base in the south polar region of the Moon, which would be able to benefit from continuous sunlight. The location would also be ideal for deep craters that have been shrouded in darkness for billions of years.
