How to Watch the SpaceX Crew-4 Astronauts Land

After nearly six months aboard the International Space Station (ISS), SpaceX’s Crew-4 astronauts will return to Earth on Wednesday, October 12 aboard a Crew Dragon spacecraft. Continue reading for more information on how to watch a livestream of the astronauts’ return.

NASA astronauts Kjell Lindgren, Robert Hines, and Jessica Watkins, along with ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, will disembark from the orbital outpost early Wednesday evening ET before splashing down just over 25 hours later on Thursday.

The space agency said it is monitoring weather conditions in the seven targeted landing zones in the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida, with any poor forecasts likely to delay the crew’s departure from the space station.

If there is a delay, an additional undocking opportunity will be available the following day, Thursday, October 13.

What to Look For

You can watch all of the coverage by using the video player at the top of this page or by going to NASA Live, which will have the same feed.

On Wednesday, October 12, NASA will begin its livestream at 10:05 a.m. ET with Crew-4’s farewell remarks and a change of command ceremony aboard the space station.

Later in the day, at 5 p.m. ET, the livestream will resume to cover the closure of the hatch separating the spacecraft from the ISS, which is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. ET.

The Crew Dragon spacecraft is scheduled to detach from the International Space Station at 7:05 p.m. ET. The spacecraft will appear to move slowly away from the space-based laboratory, but keep in mind that both the Crew Dragon and the ISS are moving through space at over 17,000 mph (27,360 kph), orbiting approximately 250 miles above Earth.

The Crew Dragon and Crew-4 astronauts will splashdown on Thursday in an unconfirmed location. A recovery crew will then arrive by boat at the spacecraft to assess the astronauts’ condition before transporting them back to Earth, bringing a half-year space mission to a close.
