Running in the Park The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

so hopefully you won’t have to! In order to avoid injuries and ensure a more enjoyable running experience, here are my top three tips for running in the park. If you take care of these things, you’re likely to both avoid accidents and keep your runs going smoothly.

Most parks aren’t designed for runners:


The biggest problem is that most parks are not designed for runners. This can be dangerous because you’re running on surfaces that are not meant to accommodate human contact. You’re also constantly dodging other park-goers who often have no idea how to act around a runner. These factors combined with the time it takes to find an open area make running in a park less than ideal. However, I still think it’s worth doing every now and then because there is something special about being outside on a beautiful day.

Wear the Right Shoes:

But what about when you’re running? I think it’s important to wear the right shoes for your type of run. For example, if you are running on a trail or off-road terrain, you should be wearing more durable running shoes with soles that offer better traction. If you are running on asphalt or concrete sidewalks, then a lighter shoe would work best because there is less wear and tear on your feet.

Stay alert:


It’s no secret that running can be a daunting task for anyone. It’s not easy to get started and you’ll undoubtedly face hurdles along the way, but it will all be worth it. For those of you who are just starting out or trying to get back into it after taking some time off, here are some tips for making your run successful. Stay hydrated. Running can lead to dehydration if you don’t stay hydrated during or after your workout. Staying hydrated keeps your muscles from cramping up and also boosts your performance while training. Drink water before a run, try sports drinks during a run if you’re exercising intensely and have water ready when you finish a run. Find an activity buddy.

Run with a Buddy:


If you’re going to run in a park it’s best to go with a buddy. Not only does it make things more fun and less lonely for you, but it also makes them safer. Running alone can lead to injury due to unsafe surfaces or lack of visibility. Plus, it’s easier to exercise with someone else because you can push each other when one of you is feeling tired or just not running as fast as they would like.

Always bring your phone:


As a runner, I am always paranoid that my phone will die. I know it’s only a 10 minute run from home to the park but I always feel like if my phone dies then no one can find me. So here are some handy tips to help ensure your phone doesn’t die on you while out running errands or just getting some exercise.
-Bring a battery pack – as long as you have your charger cord with you then this is a pretty easy solution. You can buy them at any store like Target or Best Buy for around $15-20 dollars.

Watch out for dogs:


We love to go for walks in our neighborhood. There is a park near us with a playground that we often take our toddler to. We’ve been there so many times that we know most of the people and dogs there by name. I think it’s safe to say that the dogs are an essential part of what makes this park so special. We always make sure we have treats on hand to give them when they come up to sniff us or when they want a little attention while their owners are playing on the swings or slides with their kids. However, over time I noticed some things about these dogs that were not so great.

Enjoy the Exercise:


Exercise is a necessary part of living. It not only helps you stay healthy but it also has a very positive impact on your mental health. There are many different exercises you can do to work different parts of your body. Running is one such exercise. I usually run around my local park for about 15 minutes three times a week. One of my favorite things about running is that it’s an easy way to get fresh air, take care of myself, and have some fun at the same time!
As with anything, there are some downsides to running as well. For example, it takes time to recover from running which might be inconvenient if you have other obligations like work or school.vvvvvvv
